New Smyrna Beach -- A shopper at the Walmart on State Road 44 in New Smyrna Beach hopped back and forth between moving carts as she tried to decide between a cross necklace and a heart-shaped one.
Noticing they were just $5 each, she decided to buy both. Nearby, a toddler threw a temper tantrum when his father wouldn't let him get a big plastic firetruck.
Still others hovered around the large DVD bin, trying to decide on the bargain-basement movies that everyone likely has seen before such as "Legally Blonde" and "Rambo, First Blood."
Walmart hd a sign on the front doors alerting shoppers it was closing at 7 p.m. and would remain closed Christmas Day.
With 30 minutes to go, shoppers were still coming through the doors. Such was the bustle of last-minute shoppers this evening at the Walmart.
At the nearby Radio Shack in the same plaza, the cash registers were going strong as were the credit-card machines. The manager said he planned to close at least a couple hours before the normal 10 p.m.
"We won't be here unless you have a $10,000 gift card," he cracked.
Traffic was heavy on S.R. 44 as darkness set in.
No sign of Santa's sleigh yet.
