NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- A man who police suspect tried to ram one of their patrol cars during an attempted arrest is on the loose.
The man was driving a truck involved in a burglary at 1100 N. Dixie Freeway, Lot No. 15, just before 3:40 a.m., police said. The vehicle was stopped a short distance away and the two passengers taken into custody, when the driver took off. After finding himself on a dead-end street, the driver then turned around ands aimed his vehicle at a patrol caar before stopping it, backing up a little and jumping out and fleeing on foot. A police canine unit was brought out, but the suspected burglar was not found.
Police have identified the wanted driver as Christopher Rock, 28, of New Smyrna Beach. Police plan to serve a warrant on him with a slew of charges, including aggravated fleeing and eluding, aggravated assault on a police officer, possession of burglary tools, larceny and violation of driver’s license restrictions.
Deana L. Ellis, 41, no certain address, was charged with obstruction without violence, and Deshawn Marshall, 35, New Smyrna Beach, was charged with burglary and possession of burglary tools. Both were being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach.
The stolen property, which included a toolbox, tools and other miscellaneous items, were returned to the rightful owner, police said.
