NSB resident appointed to Florida Historical Commission by governor

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Gov. Charlie Crist has appointed New Smyrna Beach resident Nancy Maddox to the Florida Historical Commission. Maddox has been cultural and recreation manager for Volusia County government since 2001.

The 11-member commission was established in 2001 by the Legislature to enhance public participation and involvement in the preservation and protection of the state's historic and archaeological sites and properties, said county spokeswoman Pat Kuehn.

Members review and rank special category Historic Preservation Grant applications and advise legislators about policy and preservation needs.

A longtime supporter of historic preservation, Maddox is vice president of the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation, serves on New Smyrna Beach’s Historic Preservation Board, and oversees the management of county-owned historic sites, including DeBary Hall.
