New Smyrna Beach's artificial Christmas tree on the easternmost end of Canal Street (actually on Riverside Drive, facing Canal) was fully lit Saturday night after the debacle of the night before when the lower portion of the tree lighting was out amid heavy rainfall.
Mayor Adam Barringer, who was the grand marshal for Saturday's Christmas Parade was pleased the lights were fully restored, expressing concern earlier in the day when he learned they were not fully operational.
The nearly $9,000 tree was initially lit for the holiday season eight days ago. It was purchased with the idea of being able to withstand Florida weather -- rain or shine, with the exception of a major hurricane or tornado, of course.
