Party Lines: State Rep. Hukill appointed chairwoman of State House's Military and Local Affairs Policy Committee

TALLAHASSEE -- The Speaker of the Florida House, Ray Sansom, announced council and committee assignments for members, including Sate Rep. Dorothy L. Hukill (R-Port Orange) as chairwoman of the Military and Local Affairs Policy Committee.

Hukill was also appointed to serve on the Rules and Calendar Council, the Economic Development and Community Affairs Policy Council, the Health & Family Services Policy Council and the Transportation & Economic Development Appropriations Committee.

“It is an honor to be chosen as Chair of this important committee which will deal with a wide array of issues including military affairs, growth management, local tax issues, emergency management, building codes, community development, libraries, cultural and historical programs, and housing,” said Hukill, whose district includes Southeast Volusia.

“I look forward to working with my fellow members as we tackle the issues crucial to our state’s future.” Hukill said she hopes her efforts with the Economic Development & Community Affairs Policy Council and Transportation & Economic Development Appropriations Committee will allow her to continue her work on bringing new jobs and industry to Volusia.

In September, Hukill hosted an Economic Development Summit in Volusia, bringing Lt. Governor Jeff Kottkamp and other state officials to the local district to discuss ways to grow the area’s economy.
