NEW SMYRNA EACH -- Gail Henrickson, a planner with the city of New Smyrna Beach, received a proclamation tonight from Mayor Sally Mackay in recognition of National Community Planning Month, celebrated in October by the American Planning Association.
Henrickson said that even though the sour economy has many feeling the pinch and as a result building is in a lull, the business of planning never ceases. She noted that people who bicycle along paths, live in 1-acre plots or in a downtown condominium are all the result of planning.
"Planning is not something that happens in a vacuum," Henrickson said.
