DELAND -- The search is on for a gunman who burst into a home near DeLand late Tuesday night and shot and killed a man, a Volusia County Sheriff's spokesman said.
The victim is believed to be 33-years-old, but his identity isn't being released until family members
are notified. Volusia County Sheriff's investigators don't believe the killing was random.
The shooting occurred at a home on Helen Drive. The Sheriff's Office received the initial call at 11:19 p.m. from a neighbor on Pearl Street who reported hearing yelling and multiple gunshots.
"Three minutes later, a man called 911 to report that a masked intruder
had barged into the house and shot his friend," Sheriff's spokesman Gary Davidson said. "The caller said the
victim wasn't breathing, and when deputies began arriving at the scene at 11:25 p.m. they confirmed that the victim was dead. His body was found outside of the home at 1256 Helen Drive."
