T.S Fay doesn't seem to want to play

She's teased us with 5-minute rain bands and gusting winds of up to 35 mph, and just like that -- nothing.

Perhaps, the many skeptics are right. Tropical Storm Fay has not lived up to the hype.

At least not yet.

Still, there's another 24 hours as of this 3:30 a.m. Wednesday blog entry where Fay could cause problems locally. Especially, if she does have that boomerang effect that New Smyrna Beach Mayor Sally Machay was worried about just before midnight when she gave me her latest report on the city's readiness.

As those of you who read my initial blog on Fay may recall, I was none too pleased not to be able to reach the mayor or the commissioners Tuesday night, though out of fairness to them, I pointed out that my calls were placed after 10 p.m.

Well, as for the mayor, she was at the Edgewater City Council meeting where she was getting information about a large subdivision being plnned near Interstate 95.

She actually e-mailed me at 4 a.m. Tuesday with a thorough update.

As for my noting that nothing was placed on the city's Web site the night before about pertinent information for residents, Mackay took care of that first thing in the morning, explaing she had been assured there would be some kind of posting when she left City Hall Monday afternoon.

The mayor and I agreed that she would provide twice daily updates as NSBNEWS.net is the only online news service with Fay coverage for New Smyrna Beach and Southeast Volusia as a whole, beyond sandbag lists and closings reported by media elsewhere.
