Victims in Oak Hill double-fatality crash ID'd

OAK HILL -- The victims in the noon Wednesday double-fatality crash at the intersection of U.S. 1 and Halifax Avenue were identified as 71-year-old Eunice Perkins and 70-year-old Mary Campaigue in their 70s, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Perkins, of Guelph, Ontario, and Campaigue, whose home residence was not available, were passengers in a Dodge Caravan heading west on Halifax that crossed into U.S. 1 and struck a southbound Ford Taurus at the blinking yellow light's hometown was not available. There are stop signs at both ends of Halifax and the van initially stopped, but then for unknown reasons continued and the collision ensued, Oak Hill police said.

After the collision, the van spun and struck a Chevrolet pick-up truck, which then hit a Dodge pick-up truck. The driver of the van was seriously injured as was another passenger. Both of the elderly women were pronounced dead before arrival at local hospitals. The drive and a passenger in the Taurus received minor injuries as did the driver of the Chevrolet pick-up truck.

The cause of the accident is under investigation by the highway patrol, which is responsible for investigating fatal crashes. Oak Hill police were first on the scene.
