Volusia County Sheriff’s investigators have tentatively identified the victim whose skeletal remains were found Thursday morning in a wooded area of Deltona. Based on jewelry and other items recovered from the scene, the victim has been identified as 58-year-old, Carl Lynn Cappabiancas whose last known permanent address was in DeLand. However, the man was thought to be homeless when deputies encountered him in Deltona back in April.
"Family members said the man suffered from Diabetes and several other acute medical conditions and left his home earlier this year after becoming estranged from his wife," Sheriff's spokesman Gary Davidson said. "He had not been reported missing, but Sheriff’s investigators who recovered a ring with the U.S. Marines insignia inquired at Volusia County ’s Veterans’ Services Department and found someone who knew the man. Investigators plan to meet with the man’s family later today."
While the cause of death hasn’t been determined, investigators who’ve examined the skeletal remains so far have found no indications of violence or trauma.
