Mass of Christian Burial for Yolanda Gerbec Dacar, age 95, of Fairview, Alabama, a former long time resident of New Smyrna Beach, who died Saturday, June 5, 2010 at Hanceville Nursing Home in Alabama, will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 10 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Smyrna Beach, with burial following in Edgewater-New Smyrna Cemetery. Calling hours will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Settle-Wilder's New Smyrna Beach Chapel.
Born March 25, 1915 in Lorain, Ohio to Frank and Frances Cerne Gerbec, Mrs. Dacar had two older brothers, Frank and Henry. A 1938 graduate of Kent State University, she taught elementary school for 35 years before retiring in 1980. She married Frank Dacar in 1942 in Steubenville, Ohio; he preceded her in death in New Smyrna Beach in December, 2003. They are survived by three children, Joseph, Thomas, and David.
A member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Mrs. Dacar was active in the Women's Club and Garden Club, New Smyrna Beach and SNPJ Lodge, Samsula. Her hobbies included a love of roses and raising orchids, and, as an accomplished pianist and organist, she often played for the Women's and Garden Clubs. Memorial donations may be made in Mrs. Dacar's name to Catholic Charities of Central Florida, 207 White St.,Daytona Beach, FL 32114.
