Yolanda Gerbec Dacar

Mass of Christian Burial for Yolanda Gerbec Dacar, age 95, of Fairview, Alabama, a former long time resident of New Smyrna Beach, who died Saturday, June 5, 2010 at Hanceville Nursing Home in Alabama, will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 10 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Smyrna Beach, with burial following in Edgewater-New Smyrna Cemetery. Calling hours will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Settle-Wilder's New Smyrna Beach Chapel.

Born March 25, 1915 in Lorain, Ohio to Frank and Frances Cerne Gerbec, Mrs. Dacar had two older brothers, Frank and Henry. A 1938 graduate of Kent State University, she taught elementary school for 35 years before retiring in 1980. She married Frank Dacar in 1942 in Steubenville, Ohio; he preceded her in death in New Smyrna Beach in December, 2003. They are survived by three children, Joseph, Thomas, and David.

A member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Mrs. Dacar was active in the Women's Club and Garden Club, New Smyrna Beach and SNPJ Lodge, Samsula. Her hobbies included a love of roses and raising orchids, and, as an accomplished pianist and organist, she often played for the Women's and Garden Clubs.
