DELTONA -- A 28-year-old Deltona woman sustained lacerations Saturday night after armed intruders ransacked her house and struck her in the back of the head several times with a gun, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office reported.
It’s unclear if anything was taken in the attack, which occurred at about 10 p.m. at a home on Utah Drive, sheriff's spokesman Gary Davidson said.
The victim declined an ambulance ride and made other arrangements to go to the hospital, where her head wounds were stitched up. The attack, which wasn’t random, is under investigation by the sheriff’s Office.
"The victim said she was walking in her driveway and getting ready to get in her car when she was accosted from behind by two unknown black men who forced her to go back into her house," Davidson said. "Once inside the house, the intruders demanded money, ransacked the residence and pistol-whipped the woman in the back of the head. The intruders also asked for the victim’s boyfriend, who wasn’t home at the time of the attack."
Once the victims exited the house and drove away, the victim ran to a neighbor to summon help, Davidson said.
The Sheriff’s Office was called about the incident at 10:08 p.m. Deputies began arriving minutes later to begin their investigation.
