NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- A boyfriend-girlfriend dispute is believed to be the reason for a gun being fired into a resience that has resulted in five arrests, New Smyrna Beach police said.

There were no injuries reported in the 3:45 p.m. Wednesday incident at a Palmetto Street apartment rented by Steven M. Sullivan Jr., in which a piece of wood was removed from a window and a gun aimed through it and fired. Henry E. Contois, 32, who was with Taylor, was also a witness to the shooting, police said.

The gunman and several others with him fled, but police were able to get a description and initially caught up with two of them and then the remaining three the following day.

William R. Taylor, 21, the alleged trigger-man, was charged with shooting into an unoccupied dwelling. Police said he did it on behalf of 19-year-old Tamera Jo-Ann Busbey, former girlfriend of Sullivan's who was mad at him for breaking up with her. She and 16-year-old Brian Gerald Vanaller, both of Edgewater, and 18-year-old Kyle Patrick Doolin of New Smyrna Beach, were the first three arrested on charges of being principals in the shooting. Taylor and 19-year-old Daniel J. Weekley, no address given, also charged as a principal, were arrested Thursday based on "independent" eyewitness descriptions.

The adults were all transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail. No information was released on whether Vanaller was sent to the Volusia Juvenile Detention Center or released to a parent.
