NSB High School Barracudas come up short in football action

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla -- The Barracudas scored the first touchdown of the game, but the offense sputtered after that en-route to a 38-7 loss at home tonight to Spruce Creek.

New Smyrna started this game with a good first quarter. New Smyrna got the ball first and worked it up to midfield. At this the offense executed a brilliant end around with the left end Mike Johnson going around the right side of the line for 30 yards with no one even close to him.

With the score 7-0 in favor of New Smyrna Beach, Spruce Creek was driving for a sure touchdown when Mike Klein intercepted the ball and ran it back to near midfield. New Smyrna took the ball into Spruce Creek territory, but could not get past the 25-yard line. The quarter ended with New Smyrna Ahead 7-0.

With the score 7-0 in favor of New Smyrna Beach, Spruce Creek was driving for a sure touchdown when Mike Klein intercepted the ball and ran it back to near midfield. New Smyrna took the ball into Spruce Creek territory, but could not get past the 25-yard line. The quarter ended with New Smyrna Ahead 7-0.

After that, the game took an ugly turn for New Smyrna as Spruce Creek scored 21 unanswered points. Spruce Creek had a long drive capped off by Latharius Giles’ 3-yard run. The Barracudas Smyrna had an eight-yard punt that led to a 28-yard Giles touchdown run and a fumble on their own 25-yard line that led to a 3-yard pass from Shane Peludat to Andrew Coates to make it 21-7 at half time.

After the half, New Smyrna mustered very little offense while Spruce Creek scored two touchdowns and a field goal to cap the final score at 38-7.
