DAYTONA BEACH -- Passenger traffic at Daytona Beach International Airport increased 35 percent in October, compared with the same month last year.
During October, 40,092 passengers traveled through Daytona Beach International Airport. This compares with 29,590 travelers recorded in October last year.
For the past 12 months, 486,790 travelers have flown in and out of the county-operated airport, a 16 percent increase compared to the same 12 months the prior year when the airport handled 418,899 passengers. The 35-percent increase in October follows a 46-percent increase in September traffic in comparison with September 2009.
The airport*s major carriers -- Delta and U.S Airways -- have upgraded aircraft to larger equipment and are offering more seats at more competitive fares than last year, explained Rick Karl, the airport's director, who said he anticipates this trend will continue through April.
*We are very pleased with the current uptick in air travel at Daytona Beach International Airport,* Karl said. *We are going to finish well ahead of last year and 2011 is looking very positive as well.*
