NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Ray Guiser was able to keep the spirit of jazz alive while still providing a pop flavor when he performed Van Morrison's "Moondance" on a flute for an overflowing dining crowd Saturday night at That's Amore.
Guiser entertained the crowd at the popular Italian restaurant for three hours, using a variety of woods instruments as part of the 11th annual New Smyrna Beach Jazz Festival, held Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 15 venues, among them SoNapa Grill, Clancy's Cantina and the Grille at Riverview, and featuring 20 performers.
The event was produced by Marc Monteson Productions with underwriting from the Southeast Volusia Advertising and the City of New Smyrna Beach. Several media outlets were paid to promote the event. NSBNews.net was not among them and was the only one to actually cover the festival.
Chad Schilsky, proprietor of That's Amore, was thrilled with the crowd's enthusiasm. "It's fantastic," Schilsky said. "It doesn't get any better than this."
