New Smyrna Beach officials schedule Sept. 5 meeting to discuss North Causeway housing project

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- A public meeting is set for Sept. 5 to discuss the Causeway Landings affordable housing development proposed at the former Food Lion Shopping Center in the 100 block of the North Causeway

The meeting will begin at 5 p.m., a Wednesday, at the Brannon Center, 105 S. Riverside Drive.

David Glunt of Madden Moorhead & Glunt Civil Engineers has requested the meeting to present the project, which is proposed at the 14-acre site.

The purpose of the meeting is to address concerns regarding design aspects related to the multi-family and commercial components of the proposed project," the city said in a press release. "Proposed improvements include: - Dedicated public waterfront access - 240 multi-family residential units, including senior housing - Approximately 5,000-10,000 square feet of non-residential space "

The property already is approved for 202 multi-family residential units and approximately 10,000 square feet of non-residential space,” the release stated, attributing the quote to Gail Henrikson, New Smyrna Beach's planning manager, adding, “The approved development agreement requires specific architectural features be incorporated into the design of all buildings on the site.”

For more information, Henrikson can be reached at the New Smyrna Beach City Hall, during normal business hours at 386-424-2132.
