NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The city commission just approved the budget for the new fiscal year, Oct. 1 to Sept. 30, 2013.
Through the combined efforts of our commission, the city manager, assistant city manager, department directors, city employees, and business partners, we were able to further reduce expenses and reduce the millage rate, i.e. lower taxes!
Since taking office, we have been faced with unprecedented budget shortfalls, the housing bust, increases in foreclosures, bank failures and a high unemployment rate, essentially the worst economy since the Great Depression.
Unlike the federal government, we can all thank and recognize former commissions and administrations for their part in building reserves and making decisions to strengthen the foundation our city's financial condition.
Unlike the federal government, we can all thank and recognize former commissions and administrations for their part in building reserves and making decisions to strengthen the foundation our city's financial condition.
Through reorganization, budget planning, regional partnering and a host of other activities we continue to gain efficiencies in how our local government is managed with a goal of ensuring financial sustainability.
