DAYTONA BEACH -- Perhaps the winning lottery ticket was not a big enough score for a man who reached into the cash register after the cashier opened the drawer and scooped up the cash before running off just before 4 p.m. Monday from the Sunoco, 2501 W. International Speedway Boulevard, Daytona Beach cops said.
Though there was a brief struggle after the man leaned over the counter and snatched a wad of cash, but the cashier was not hurt. Cops don't know how much cash he got away with.
The robber was described as white with a stocky build and somewhere in his 40s. He had reddish-blond hair and a clean-shaven face and was wearing a shirt with the University of Miami logo, a gold watch, jeans and dark shoes.
Police did not release details on how much the winning ticket was valued at or whether the robber left it behind.
Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call Daytona Beach police Sgt. Mark Eisner at 386-671-5203 or email him at EisnerM@dbpd.us.
