DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- No arrests have been made in two separate gunshot slayings in the city since the weekend, though Police Chief Michael Chitwood indicated to other local media outlets his officers have identified a person of interest in the second slaying.

Chitwood and his assigned public information officers removed Headline Surfer from their media distribution list weeks ago after the Internet newspaper won two awards for excellence in journalism from the Florida Press Club for its investigative story earlier this year on the chief's promotion of an administrator to captain, despite his alleged mistreatment of two women cops under his command.

DBPD Chief Michael ChitwoodPolice Chief Michael Chitwood, shown here at left, made himself available for TV cameras regarding the homicides, but he and his assigned PIOs have continued ignoring Headline Surfer's requests for timely release of press releases and reports.

The Internet newspaper's repeated request for police incident reports on both homicides also has gone unanswered.

Calls and e-mails to Chitwood and assigned PIOs Jimmy Flynt and John Creamer for confirmation of the homicides reported by the other Central Florida media outlets have gone unanswered as well.
