DAYTONA BEACH -- Deltona City Commissioner Webster Barnaby, 54, is the third candidate to file to run in the 2014 elections for the non-partisan at-large seat on the Volusia County Council against incumbent Joyce Cusack along with Patricia Northey, the current district 5 seat holder who is term-limited. Northey and Cusack are Democrats while Barnaby is a Republican.
Campaigns: This is Webster Barnaby's second run for elected office after his overwhelming victory in the 2012 elections for the district 2 seat on on the Deltona City Commission. With no incumbent, easily defeated fellow newcomer Rob Feld with nearly 52 percent of the votes cast in the general election.
Politics: Webster Barnaby describes himself as a Frederick Douglass-style Republican who appreciates and understands the importance of public debate and openness of government. An ordained minister, he sees himself as a strong believer in his Christian faith and in his family. He describes himself as fiscally conservative with the traditional conservative value system that less government bureaucracy means less intrusion and less taxes.
Background: Webster Barnaby was born in Birmingham, England, where he attended the former Matthew Bolton Technical College, receiving an associate's degree in Business Administration. After his studies, Barnaby worked for the Birmingham City Council Housing Department for 10 years as an area housing manager.
He then moved to St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands and lived there for four-plus years. While there he worked in the hospitality industry. Webster then moved to the U.S., where he became a naturalized citizen on March 5, 1998.
While living in Florida, Webster became interested in sales and marketing and was employed as an account executive in advertising sales with 95.3 FM WTLN radio many years ago. Barnaby currently has been employed for more than 18 years now as a national sales representative with the non-partisan research firm, National Write Your Congressman.

Son, Adrian, 22, Adrian, a Midshipman at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., is studying Political Science and also on the Navy football team as a defensive lineman.
Barnaby is a member of the board of elders at Trinity Assembly of God in Deltona. He is a former school board member of Reading Edge Academy, a past school board member of Trinity Christian Academy and served three terms as its PTA president.
The Barnabys have called Deltona home for more than two decades.
