NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. -- A house fire near New Smyrna Beach during the early morning hours of Nov. 6, claimed the life of a 44-year-old man, identified a short time lster that day as Danny Henry, who lived there with his brother.
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to 302 Oak St. after the fire was called in at 12:21 a.m.
When deputies arrived, the fire was already fully involved. One occupant -- the victim's brother -- made it out of the burning house, but was unable to help get his brother out in time.
"Firefighters made entry into the house and extricated the victim from a bedroom," Sheriff's spokesman Gary Davidson told Headline Surfer® after that morning's sunrise. "He was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:40 a.m."

The fatal fire comes in at No. 89 in the HeadlineSurfer.com countdown of the top 100 Central Florida stories of 2014.
The State Fire Marshal's Office has said it believes the fire was accidental, but an investigation is ongoing.
