DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Two toddlers -- a boy and a girl -- died shortly after they were found unresponsive in a backyard swimming pool at a home near Daytona Beach late this morning morning, the victims of apparent drownings, a spokesman for the Volusia County Sheriff's Office said.
Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to 1406 Valencia Ave., after the Sheriff’s Office received a frantic 9-1-1 call about two children not breathing after they were found in the pool. Deputies and paramedics began arriving at the scene within 3 minutes, and the children -- a 1-year-old boy and 2-year-old girl -- were rushed to area hospitals.
"One was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach and the other was taken to Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center in Daytona Beach," Sheriff's spokesman Gary Davidson told HeadlineSurfer.com. "Both died at the hospitals. There were a total of five people at the house at the time of the incident -- two adults and three children."
