Markeith Loyd insisted the littany of accusations against him by the p[olice and the media are “made up” and he complained that he was beaten up by the cops even as he maintained he was not resisting arrest in his capture following a massive search by throughout Orlando and across Orange County by police and deputies alike under the command of respective leaders of the two law enforcement agencies headed by Orlando Police Chief John Mina and Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings, respectively.
Loyd is accused of killing Orlando Master Sgt. Debra Clayton outside a Wal Mart while he was a fugitive from justice, but his presentment on those charges is expected Friday. Loyd was arrested Tuesday night following a nine-day manhunt, and police said he resisted arrest and that force was used to bring him in. He was hospitalized until Wednesday night, then jailed.
During his initial presentment, Loyd, with a large bandage covering his left eye and heavily guarded in an Orlando courtroom on charges including first-degree murder and unlawful killing of an unborn child in the Dec. 13 death of Sade Dixon, was verbally combattive with the judge, saying in part: “They done took my eye, broke my nose, broke my jaw. I didn’t resist (expletive). They just did that (expletive) and they’re trying to hide it from the news people. But I’m here right now.”
Loyd was treated briefly at Orlando Regional Medical Center for his facial injuries and then transported back to jail prior to his court presentment.
Orange County Judge Jeanette Bigney asked Loyd if he wanted the services of the public defender to reprresent him in his criminal proceedings moving forward, but he declined, saying he would represent himself. She ordered him held withoyt bail. As he was being led back to lock-up, Loyd, cursed out the judge, yelling "(expletive) you!" "(expletive) you!"
The judge did not respond.
