"In addition to public parking, a designated space is reserved for ambulances to charge their equipment during standby."
An operations facility on-site is nearing completion, Sark said, adding the facility will be used to store maintenance and operational items for the Beach Safety and Coastal Divisions, and will act as a satellite office for Coastal maintenance staff.
Overnight parking between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. is not permitted.
The county bought the property four years ago series of land purchases to provide more off-beach parking along the coastline, from Ormond-by-the-Sea to New Smyrna Beach.
This new lot in Ormond had been home to a run-down bar called "The Other Place" and a gas station. Both were razed at a cost of $1.7 million, including improvements made to the converted lot. The renovation work, including paving and parking lines was completed just a few weeks ago.
A crosswalk was installed between the lot on the west side of the roadway and the beach approach on the east side.
