Obama to accept oath of office invoking God

President-elect Barack Obama will invoke God when he takes the oath of office January 20, despite a lawsuit filed by atheist and non-religious groups, according to an attorney for Chief Justice John Roberts, who will administer the oath.

This was one of the lead-in stories in CNN politics in our Washington politics headlines on NSBNEWS.net early this morning and it made me proud to be an American. It also reaffirmed my belief in Barack Obama as our next president and why I am pleased to have voted for him.

Much is made of the U.S. Constitution and the separation of church and state. If this principle applies to Christians, Muslims, Hindus and others, then it also applies to atheists. As far as I'm concerned, believing in nothing means somebody believes in something, even if it is called "nothing." This rationale may seem petty, but as a Christian, we have as much right to practice our faith as much as the next person who professes no faith and practices that.

It's crucial to understand that the Constitution protects not only from religion, but from those who would try and stop us from practice of that religion.

Anyone who doesn't think the United States is not founded on Christian values need only to look at our monetary system: "In God we trust."

Take that, atheists!

There's also the oath in a court of law, that asks something to the effect: "Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth so help your God?"

Take that atheists!

And during the early 1950s, Congress passed and President Eisenhower signed into law the addition to the Pledge of Allegiance, that reads: I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. And to the Republic for which it stands, ONE NATION UNDER GOD..."

Eisenhower said of the 1954 decree: "In this way we are reaffirming the transcendence of religious faith in America's heritage and future; in this way we shall constantly strengthen those spiritual weapons which forever will be our country's most powerful resource in peace and war."

Take that atheists!

Yes, Barack Obama is a man of God, our next president and commander-in-chief. God bless Obama and God bless America.

Take that atheists!
