PORT ORANGE -- State Rep. Dorothy L. Hukill, R-Port Orange, whose district includes Southeast Volusia, welcomed Lt. Governor Jeff Kottkamp to
Volusia County for the inaugural Volusia Economic Development Summit.
The Sept. 30 Summit, hosted by Hukill, brought together state and local policy makers, economic development experts, and community business leaders to explore ways to expand Volusia's economy.
Featuring presentations from economic development experts from various fields, the Summit in Port Orange focused on state economic incentive programs, which help to bring and retain high-paying jobs.
The presentations were followed by a round-table discussion among the panelists with questions from the audience, moderated by Hukill. The discussion focused on how the State can partner with local government and the business community to foster economic growth.
"I am delighted that the Lieutenant Governor was able to join us for this important summit to discuss jobs and the economy here in Volusia," Hukill said. "We had a tremendous turnout and our presenters and attendees provided great insight into what we can do to grow our
economic future."
Following the summit, Hukill joined the lieutenant governor for a press conference to announce the approval of
federal funds to assist small businesses affected by Tropical Storm Fay.
