Seasonal flu vaccine still available in South Daytona

SOUTH DAYTONA — The seasonal flu vaccine is still available at the South Daytona Fire Department, 1672 S. Ridgewood Ave., city spokeswoman Jeanne Willard said.

Medicare Part B (with card) will be accepted. For those citizens not using Medicare, the cost is $25.00 cash or check.
No other insurance will be accepted.

Flu shots will be available 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday & Sunday, while supplies last.

Volusia County launches Census awareness campaign

DELAND -- Volusia County’s Complete Count Committee has launched a public awareness campaign to educate residents about the importance of completing their census questionnaires and to increase Volusia County’s response rate.

During the 2000 Census, 67 percent of the county’s residents completed and returned their forms. "We can do better than 67 percent," said Complete Count Committee Chair Joie Alexander, who also is the vice chair and at-large representative for the Volusia County

No Votran service on Thanksgiving day

DELAND -- Votran will not operate bus service Thanksgiving day in the greater Daytona Beach area, Southeast and West Volusia areas, Orlando Express and Connector routes. Votran will resume normal service Friday.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Two major things were accomplished tonight with a unanimous vote by the City Commission to spend $130,000: All but two of the buildings that housed the former high school could be razed and at least two community groups could have a new home.
