'Light Up Flagler' draws holiday crowd to NSB tourist core with song, dance and merriment

NEW SMYRNA BEACH – Parking was at a premium on all side streets around Flagler Avenue Friday night. It was apparent there was one big party going on. Parents and their children, students, and all those in the holiday spirit, gravitated toward the beachside shopping venue for the annual "Light Up Flagler," which drew about 1,500 people.

PONCE INLET -- Town residents are welcomed to bring their addressed, but unstamped Christmas cards to the Community Center to be exchanged with other Ponce Inlet citizens. There is an exchange box that has alphabetized slots in which to place them and for you to look for your own cards from friends.

ORANGE CITY -- “A Good Old Fashioned Christmas” will be held Saturday, as the city esarlier in the day hosts its annual Christmas Village.

The Christmas Village will begin the day at 9 a.m. and last until 8 p.m., in Dickinson Park, on the corner of 17/92 and East Graves Avenue. The community is invited to browse booths selling handmade gifts and Christmas crafts. Anyone interested in obtaining a booth space—which costs $25 for each 10x10 spot—can go on Orange City’s website to fill out an application. Space is limited, so early registration is recommended.

DeBary Christmas Parade is Sunday with Charlie Brown theme; toy drive deadline is Dec. 18

DEBARY -- The last day to contribute to DeBary's Toy Drive Christmas for Kids is Dec. 18. Toys, gifts or donations for boys and girls at DeBary City Hall, 16 Colomba Road, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

PONCE INLET – The Ponce Inlet Fire Department continues to provide flu shots to town residents through the end of December at the fire department.

The cost of a flu shot is $25, payable by cash, check or Medicare Part B. If you are unable to get to the fire department, arrangements can be made to have firefighters come to your residence and administer a shot.

EDGEWATER -- The annual Edgewater Christmas Parade will be held Saturday, featuring lots of floats, several school marching bands and plenty of candy for the children. Oh, and Santa Claus, too.

The parade starts at 10 a.m. from State Road 442 at and Air Park Road and then continuing east to U.S. 1. The parade is sponsored by Edgewater LeisureServices.
