Location of fatal hit and run of 7-year-old boyORLANDO -- A 7-year-old boy was struck by at least one vehicle late Monday night in the westbound lanes of Silver Star Road near Orlando West Drive in Pine Hills and pronounced dead at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children a short time later in an apparent hit-and-run, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

"At this time troopers are sorting out who left the scene," FHP spokesman Sgt. Kim Montes said of the 10:15 p.m. fatality.

Deputies issue silver alert: 72-year-old DeBary man returning from Orlando in VW Jetta doesn't make it home

Albert Kaplan, 72, of DeBaryDEBARY -- A 72-year-old DeBary man was driving back from Orlando Thursday, but never made it home and now Volusia County deputies are asking the public to let them know if they see him, agency spokesman Gary Davidson said just before midnight.

Albert Kaplan drove off from his home on Madera Road in DeBary at 2 p.m.

"Five hours later, his wife said someone in the Orlando area called to tell her that he had come across Kaplan and had given him directions on how to get back to his house," Davidson said.

The wife then His wife then called the Sheriff's Office at 8:14 p.m. asking for help in locating him to make sure he got home. Because Kaplan suffers from dementia and other medical ailments, the Sheriff's Office launched a Silver Alert through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to assist in the search for Kaplan. Area hospitals also were contacted.

ORLANDO -- A 27-year-old motorcyclist was struck and killed Saturday night while riding north on Alafala Trail on his 2001 Suzuki by a motorist turning left while southbound on the roadway and into the biker's path, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Kevin Anderson of Orlando was pronounced dead at the scene of the 7:30 p.m. accident near Pasteur Drive. He was not wearing a helmet. James Miron, 23, was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured in his 4-door 2008 Toyota. The accident remains under investigation, the FHP said.
