TALLAHASSEE -- Volusia County's Olympic gold medal-winning swimmer Ryan Lochte was honored by state lawmakers today.
Lochte, the 24-year-old Spruce Creek High School and University of Florida graduate, won a relay team gold and an individual gold in the 200-meter backstroke, the latter beating the world record, in the Beijing Games.
DELTONA Volusia County Sheriff's investigators nabbed a 21-year-old Deltona man earlier today, accused of exposing himself to four people in the past month, including three teenage girls.
Two of the episodes occurred last week, including one that was just a few blocks from the suspect's home. The other incident took place in March. The suspect, Winston Garwood, is
facing three counts of indecent exposure and one count of lewd or lascivious exhibition, Sheriff's spokesman Gary Davidson said.
DELAND -- The outbreak of swine flu in New York City and the potential for a nationwide pandemic caught the attention of Volusia County officials this afternoon.
"The Volusia County Health Department has been monitoring this situation over the weekend,"said Dr. Thomas Coleman, director of the Volusia County Health Department, in a statement released Sunday. "Our senior leaders and public health preparedness team will meet on Monday to assess this situation and plan accordingly."
There are reportedly 20 such cases in New York City.
DAYTONA BEACH -- A woman nude from the waist down when she was struck and killed by a motorist Tuesday while walking along U.S. Highway 92 after her release from jail has been identified as 41-year-old Dawn Marie Abraham of DeLand, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

DAYTONA BEACH -- The Cultural Council of Volusia County will meet at 9 a.m. Friday, May 8, in the Ocean Center’s Clyde Mann Room, 101 N. Atlantic Ave.
Updates on current public art projects will be provided, and the council will discuss the upcoming Community Cultural Grant review. After the meeting, staff will conduct a tour of the artwork installed recently as part of the Ocean Center’s Art in Public Places Program. The public is invited to attend, and time will be available for public input.

DAYTONA BEACH SHORES -- Police didn't have to go far to fina a man they suspect robbed the SunTrust Bank branch at 3640 S. Atlantic Ave. on Monday.
ORMOND BEACH -- A 73-year-old Missouri tourist was killed Saturday night when he was struck by a motorist while trying to cross South Atlantic Avenue near the Plantation Island Resort, Ormond Beach police said.
Ronald Gerhardt walked into the path of a 1999 Toyota, driven by 19-year-old James Livingston of Daytona Beach, police said.
The victim died a short time after being transported to Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach.
No charges were filed against the driver, police said.
DAYTONA BEACH SHORES -- The SunTrust Bank branch at 3640 S. Atlantic Ave., was robbed just before 1 p.m. this afternoon by a lone man who implied he had a gun, but never showed one, Daytona Beach Shores police said.
Police did not release information on how much mone might have been taken by the robber, described as being in his 20s and wearing a grey shirt and shorts, last spotted in the area of Cardinal Boulevard, according to witnesses.
