96. NSB cops: Man falls off Observer newspaper roof after joking he was going to skateboard off it

Coutesy photo/Sheriff's Office. Adrian Fair, 32, of New Smyrna Beach is reported in critical condition, after falling from the roof of the Canal Street building that houses the Observer newspaper with the intent of skateboarding on it. He was airlifted last night to Halifax Medical Center. 

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- A 32-year-old New Smyrna Beach man was reported in critical condition today at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach, after falling from the roof-top ledge of the Observer newspaper office, 508 Canal St., while bragging to friends he was going to skateboard off it.

Adrian Fair, of 721 Dougherty St., suffered critical head injuries in the 20-foot-plus drop onto the sidewalk just before 9:20 p.m.

SAMSULA -- A New Smyrna Beach biker was killed when he was struck by a young motorist while pushing his stalled motorcycle on the northbound edge of the road on Samsula Drive the night of Oct. 29, the Florida Highway Patrol and Volusia County Sheriff's Office confirmed.

PORT ORANGE -- A 42-year-old Edgewater man turned himself in shortly after robbing a bank Sept. 28, Port Orange police said. Tony Max Olea was subsequently charged with bank robbery, having essentially called in his own arrest by dialing 9-1-1 .

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- A boyfriend-girlfriend dispute is believed to be the reason for a gun being fired into a residence that has resulted in five arrests, New Smyrna Beach police said.

EDGEWATER -- A 53-year-old Oak Hill man was charged with theft Jan. 29, after spending three hours at Dustin's Bar B-Q restaurant on U.S. 1, where he ate beans, two hamburgers and drank a dozen cups of coffee, before walking outside to light up a cigarette and explaining to the pursuing manager that he had no money, Edgewater police reported.
