EDGEWATER, Fla. -- By a mere dozen votes, Gene Emter was elected to the Edgewater City Council in a Feb. 28 special election. Only 7 percent of the city's nearly 13,600 registered voters cast votes in the special election.

"I got a call from the governor's appointment staff informing me of his decision to name me chairman," Davis told Headline Surfer, adding he was excited about the governor's decision.

"There's a lot of work to be done and I'd like to get started as soon as possible," Davis said Wednesday night from his Edgewater home.

Adam Royce Duke, shown at far left with his sister Danielle on his Facebook page, was struck and killed by a train in Edgewater. A remembrance photo of him with a nephew placed after his Tuesday death on his profile page, describes him as "Son, Brother, Friend."

EDGEWATER -- The man killed after slipping on the railroad tracks while throwing rocks at a train has been identified by cops as 24-year-old Adam Royce Duke.

And a local family remembering the loss of a father now come to grips with the loss of his son, a young man with a life filled with possibilities, on this Father's Day weekend. 

Edgewater cops: Man throwing rocks at train falls into its path and killed

EDGEWATER -- A 24-year-old man with two friends was throwing rocks at a train when he fell into its path and was killed overnight, Edgewater police said.

The Florida East Railroad notified Edgewater police at 1:25 a.m. that a northbound train struck the man in the 25oo block of Hibiscus Drive, just north of 26th Street. The victim's name is being withheld while police notify relatives.

EDGEWATER -- Police are looking for an unidentified man who robbed the Kennedy Space Coast Federal Union branch on Monday afternoon.

Here is a synopsis of what happened as described in a media release this morning: At approximately 3:08pm an unidentified white male entered the Kennedy Space Coast Federal Credit Union located at 2810 South Ridgewood Ave. He handed the teller a note demanding money and left the bank with an undetermined amount of money. He then ran from the bank heading south on South Ridgewood Avenue.

Edgewater qualifying: No opposition allows two incumbents to return to city council

EDGEWATER -- Incumbents Gigi Bennington and Councilman Gene Emter have been returned to their respective seats on the Edgewater City Council because no one else challenged them in the 2012 elections.

With qualifying ended noon Friday, Bennington, of district 2, and Emter, of district 4, were awarded four-year terms.

Bennington was first elected in 2007, and Gene Emter in a special election earlier this year to fill the seat held by Ted Cooper who died suddenly of a heart attack in November.

Edgewater cops: 24-year-old woman threatening suicide in argument with mom reported missing

EDGEWATER -- A 24-year-old Edgewater woman is reported missing and police are asking the public's help in locating her.

Christine Lavoie and her mother were arguing in their home 6 p.m. Tuesday when the daughter ran from the residence after threatening to commit suicifde, police said.

"Christine has not been heard from since and her whereabouts are unknown at this time," Edgewater police said today in a press release.

 Christine Lavoie is described as a white, 5 feet 4 and 130 pounds. She has brown eyes, long straight dirty-blonde hair, facial piercings and a tattoo of “Bella Vita” on her right forearm. She was wearing a white T-shirt and denim capris.
