DELAND, Fla. -- Sheriff Mike Chitwood's personal grudge against the award-winning internet news outlet continued for the 77th day as Headline Surfer was the last media outlet to learn the identity of the distraught attorney who apparently was drinking and suicidal when he fired shots at the law firm he shares with his estranged wife and co-counsel in their law practice on Sunday before fleeing in his Mercedes and engaging in a gunbattle with deputies and a DeLand cop before he was shot to death.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Sheriff Michael J. Chitwood was universally condemned by five leading former county leaders contacted by Headline Surfer for their reaction to the elected lawman's pointed description of County Manager Jim Dinneen as a "lying sack of (expletive)" in a story published Wednesday in the Daytona Beach News-Journal.

Northeast hammered with upwards of 2 feet of snow; Daytona unseasonably cold for Bike Week

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- It's not exactly the kind of weather for motorcyclists here in the throes of Bike Week with temps dipping into the low 6-0s, but that's far better than the snow that has blanketed the Northeast with some states like Massachusetts buried in 20 inches with white-out conditions partly to blame for three deaths, including that of a 16-year-old New Hampshire girl whose car skidded off the roadway and slammed into a tree -- killing her.

Deltona homicide: Sheriff with personal grudge excludes internet media outlet from email alert on man gunned down in backyard while kids inside

DELTONA, Fla -- Headline Surfer was not notified by the Volusia County Sheriff's Office of a homicide that occurred Saturday in Deltona in which two suspects in a Dodge Dart who were seen fleeing after gunning down a 40-year-old man in the 2300 block of Fountain Road, who was transported to Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
