DAYTONA BEACH -- David Donohue passed Juan Pablo Montoya with 39 minutes remaining and held on to win the 47th Rolex 24 At Daytona - on the 40th anniversary of his father, Mark Donohue's, victory in the 1969 event, according to a post-race Rolex press release.

DAYTONA BEACH -- In the waning three hoyurs of the 47th Rolex 24 At Daytona, four teams are battling right down to the wire in America's premier sports car race. Buddy Rice leading in the No. 58 Brumos Racing Porsche RIley, is being chased by the No. 01 TELMEX/Target Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates driver Scott Pruett, Pedro Lamy in the No. 10 SunTrust Racing Ford Dallara, and Terry Borcheller in the No. 59 Brumos Racing Porsche Riley, according to a Rolex press release race recap.

DAYTONA BEACH -- Police Chief Mike Chitwood has found himself in the spotlight on many occasions in dealing with seedy crimes in the underbelly of Daytona Beach, with its sandpaper-faced street bums, hookers and drug peddlers along Ridgewood Avenue. But the last thing he thought he'd find himself front in center on was the Caylee Anthony saga.

George Anthony, father of accused killer Casey Anthony, hospitalized in Daytona Beach

 DAYTONA BEACH -- Several Orlando media outlets are reporting early this morning that George Anthony, the father of accused killer Casey Anthony, was located in a Daytona Beach motel by Daytona Beach police and taken to Halifax Medical Center for a psychiatric evaluation. WESH TV reported on its Web site that Anthony was reported missing Thursday night from his Orange County home by his wife Cindy and that he was depressed.

EMS Medical Advisory Board to meet Tuesday in Daytona Beach

DAYTONA BEACH -- The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Medical Advisory Board will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, in the Volusia Room at the Daytona Beach International Airport,
700 Catalina Drive.

The group is scheduled to discuss interfacing of EMS services with hospital emergency departments, transmittal of electrocardiogram (ECG) information by pre-hospital services, and goals for 2009.

Volusia County Fire Services issues burn ban for unincorporated areas and Oak Hill

DELAND -- Due to the dry conditions throughout the county, Volusia County Fire Services has issued an outdoor burn ban for the county’s unincorporated area effective Wednesday, Jan. 21. The ban also applies to the cities of DeBary, Oak Hill and Lake Helen, and the Town of
Pierson, said county spokeswoman Shelley Szafraniec.

Convenience store robber scared off by knife-wielding clerk near Ormond Beach

ORMOND BEACH -- The Volusia County Sheriff's Office is investigating a Sunday morning armed robbery of a convenience store near Ormond Beach during which the suspect came into the store brandishing a knife and demanding money. But he was startled when the clerk lunged at him with a knife of his own and the suspect fled empty handed.

The store clerk was not injured, but it's not known if the suspect was cut by the clerk, said Brandon Haught, Sheriff's spokesman.

Two men charged in convenience store robbery near Daytona Beach

DAYTONA BEACH -- A victim of a Saturday convenience store robbery near Daytona Beach got a good look at the suspects' getaway vehicle, to include the licenseplate, giving Volusia County Sheriff's deputies a valuable lead they needed to track down the suspects, Sheriff's spokesman Brandon Haught said.
