Mori Hosseini easy target of board looking at Daytona State College

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- In a stunning reversal of its verbal report, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools has decided only one man is responsible for the problems at Daytona State College with no justification, of course: Mori Hosseini. He is a local philanthropist, owner of ICI homes and one of 17 members of the Board of Governors of the Florida State University System. His wife, Forough Hosseini, is on the DSC board. Apparently, when he speaks his mind that is considered undue influence on board members.

ORMOND BEACH -- A 37-year-old surfer was bitten in the calf by a shark 6:30 this morning near the Harvard Drive approach, Volusia County Beach Patrol officials said.

The surfer, Adrian Bronson, was surfing in shallow water Friday morning when he received a bite resulting in a minor puncture wound. Bronson declined to go the hospital and instead told lifeguards he was heading to work, Beach Patrol Capt. Tammy Marris said.

Does it really take 22 people to pare 45 applicants to six to present to Daytona State College's trustees in choosing a new president?

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Excessive is the way to describe the number of people on the search committee to choose a new president for Daytona State College: 22. And of those members, 15 are directly tied to the college either as an employee or board member.

American Music Festival fiasco remains albatross for Daytona State College

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The fact that certain people have behaved deplorably in putting Daytona State College in the hole for nearly $1.5 million with the failed American Music Festival, the institution itself is holding strong in its educational mission. DSC has consistently ranked in the top 10% of the 1,200 community colleges across America.

Florida's Marco Rubio still says 'no' to presidential ticket in 2012

Editor's Note: The following was written earlier Sunday before President Obama's announcement that Osama bin Laden was killed by American forces

DAYTONA BEACH -- After telling those who attended his recent Town Hall meeting in Daytona Beach that he had no plans to make a run at the White House in 2012, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-FL, reiterated this position Sunday when he returned to Washington. As a freshman senator, he's working on the issues important to Florida and the nation and needs to concentrate on that for a while.

Will he or won't he: Is The Donald all trumped up?

Could he? Would he? Should Donald Trump run for President? What qualifications does he have that are a sure-fire antidote to Obama’s never-ending spending, disastrous monetary policy, non-existent foreign policy and a host of other situations that call for leadership?

Nancy Pelosi's liberal agenda not the recipe for strengthening our country at home and abroad

“The fact is, elections shouldn’t matter as much as they do.” It’s disconcerting to see this statement by a member of the U.S. House in light of the uproar going on in the Middle Eastern countries.  Not just any member, mind you, but the Democtrats' leading voice on Capitol Hill, former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.

MAKING THE GRADE: Obama's spending practices out of control

Here are some grades for news happenings and the newsmakers behind them in our ongoing feature: "Making the Grade."

Obama's focus on the rich is sending all of us to the poor house

Oh, come on. Does Prsident Obama have a paper bag over his head? America is headed toward financial disaster and Mr. O. thinks we should raise taxes on the “rich” and cut spending by some miniscule amount. This isn’t a solution; it’s a prescription for disaster. Congress needs to pass Rep. Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) plan to reduce our debt by trillions and put us on the path to a balanced budget. Our taxes are more than adequate to run the government once it is right-sized. It’s Congress that has “deficit attention disorder.”
