Photo by Dale Smith / Divers with the Volusia County Sheriff's Office recovered the two bodies in the cabin of a small plane that crashed Wednesday night in the ocean about 200 yards from the New Smyrna Beach shoreline.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The bodies of the two victims from Wednesday's plane crash were recovered at approximately 10:20 this morning.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- A single-engine Cessna carrying two people, "went straight down" into the ocean off New Smyrna Beach tonight, the Federal Aviation Administration confirmed.

FAA pokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said the Cessna 172 Skyhawk flew out of Sarasota and was on its way to Daytona Beach International Airport when it crashed off New Smyrna Beach.

No survivors were found following the 6:30 p.m. incident with eyewitnesses reporting "the plane went spiraling down into the ocean several yards from the shore, Sheriff's spokeswoman Priscilla Ress confirmed for NSBNews.Net.

DAYTONA BEACH -- The Volusia County Beach Patrol is mourning the loss of one of its longtime employees who died while running at noon on the beach today.

"Captain Jay McDonough, 52, was running when he suddenly collapsed in the area of East International Speedway Boulevard and South Peninsula Drive," Volusia County spokeswoman Joanne Megley said gf the mid-day Wednesday news, adding, "He was transported by ambulance to Halifax Medical Center where he was pronounced dead."
