Paul, Brennon and Heidi are training to participate in the Walt Disney World Half and Full Marathon in January 2011 as members of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training.  All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- It looked like a pharmacy in the trunk of a DeLand woman’s car when a Volusia County Sheriff’s sergeant looked inside after pulling her over due to her erratic driving, an agency spokesman said. Gloria Prinz was arrested on several charges Wednesday afternoon to include DUI and possessing prescription drugs for sale when a traffic stop in New Smyrna Beach revealed nearly 1,000 prescription pills obtained from 16 different doctors.

PORT ORANGE -- A 10-year-old boy struck by a pick-up truck while trying to cross Taylor Road for Spruce Creek Elementary School, remained in critical condition overnight at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Port Orange police said.

Douglas Ethan Swayze, a fifth grader, was running in the crosswalk toward the school in the 600 block of Taylor just after 7 a.m. when he was struck by a Chevy pick up driven by 60-year-old Michael Schoenbeck. Indications are the driver was driving within the posted speed of 45 mph and it was still dark outside, Assistant Police Chief Wayne Miller said, based on an initial investigation that is ongoing.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- First-term Congresswoman Suzanne Kosmas conceded two hours after the polls closed in Tuesday's general elections with the huge Republican-voter wave of discontent in Washington that glided Sandy Adams of Orange County to an easy victory.

With all 241 voting precincts reporting in the 24th congressional district that comprises parts of Volusia, Orange, Seminole and Brevard counties, Adams, a former sheriff's deputy and state legislator, received nearly 60 percent of the votes, 145,801 to 98,491.

Despite the crushing defeat, Kosmas was upbeat at an otherwise somber Democratic headquarters on Canal Street where she thanked supporters, and with class, issued a statement praising Adams for the big win.

"First I would like to thank all my supporters and all who have worked so hard in this election. I truly appreciate all that you have done to support our fight for the priorities of Central Florida.

"Earlier this evening, I called Sandy Adams to congratulate her on a hard fought victory. America is the greatest country in the world because we have the greatest democracy in the world, and I have the utmost respect for our political process.

Joie Alexander 17,465 votes 56.04%

George Trovato 13,701 votes 43.96%

PORT ORANGE -- Joie Alexander was ecstatic with her convincing victory over former Deltona attorney George Trovato for the district 3 seat on the Volusia County in Tuesday's general elections.

Stan Schmidt 15,327 votes 50.67%

PORT ORANGE -- Volusia County School Board dist. 3 incumbent Stan Schmidt won re-election to a second term in Tuesday's general elections by a narrow margin, crediting New Smyrna Beach upstart Sharon Luebbers with running a strong campaign.
