Ormond Beach mother brought back to Florida from New York on manslaughter charges in bathtub drowning death of baby

ORMOND BEACH -- Christal Giachetti has been extradited from New York and brought back to Volusia County, where she was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach this afternoon on a warrant charging her with aggravated manslaughter of a child.

Giachetti is being held on $150,000 bond.

Former Oak Hill Mayor OAK HILL -- A funeral service was held earlier today for former Oak Hill Mayor Donna Jane Bennett, who died Saturday. She was 57.

Bennett was mayor from 1992-'99, according to Oak Hill officials.

A funeral service was held 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Emerson Bolton, Sr., officiating.

Body of a man found in Volusia County Landfill

DAYTONA BEACH -- The Volusia County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation after the body of a man was discovered this afternoon at the Tomoka Landfill just west of Daytona Beach. The body was discovered shortly before 2 p.m. by workers sorting through recycling materials coming into the landfill.

NSB cops: Warrants obtained for apprehension of alleged gunman considered armed and dangerous

Wheelchair-bound resident and a relative attacked with stun gun during Deltona break-in

Two victims, including one who’s confined to a wheelchair, were shocked with a stun gun Tuesday night inside their home in Deltona by masked intruders who made off with a laptop computer, a Volusia County Sheriff's spokesman said.

Neither victim was seriously injured in the attack, which is under investigation by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- With more than a dozen inches of rain dumped on the region, if you don't have to drive, then don't. That's the advice of at least one New Smyrna Beach police officer on patrol tonight on the beachside.

"It's not a bad idea to just stay home," said NSB cop Jason Reve.
