DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Karen A. Holbrook, Ph.D., became the interim president of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University on Monday replacing John Johnson, who retired.
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla -- It became apparent pretty quickly to the Board of Daytona State College to seek the services of a lobbyist to compete for capital improvements and other such funding funding after DSC President Carol Eaton showed a series of statistics showing the college near the bottom compared to state colleges in South Florida.
DELAND, Fla. -- Deputy Sheriff Mike Coffin has a grown daughter and two grandchildren among his offspring, but because they live out of state, he has devoted much of his personal time mentoring young people despite his many demands as second in command of the largest cop shop in Volusia County with 460-plus sworn personnel.
NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Daddy's little girl returned to school Monday along with about 61,000 other Volusia County students.
It was the day of school for Ray Catheline's little princess, Olivia, who entered kindergarten at the Buns Sci-Tech Charter School in Oak Hill. Big brother, Nicholas entered second grade.
Misty Burris Catheline took one final snapshot of the kids at home in New Smyrna Beach before the drive to Oak Hill and a couple more photos with father and the children in their respective classes.
"(We're) missing our babies, but we have a little downtime now," the proud mom lamented.
DAYTONA BEACH -- They're out there every day with their green uniforms, and flourescent orange and yellow vests with the Volusia County Sheriff's emblem on their backs, ensuring students have a safe journey to and from the nearby elementary schools.
"Yet many residents may not take the time to thank Volusia’s school crossing guards for their service to the community," Sheriff's spokesman Gary Davidson told Headline Su4rfer®. "This Friday, however, is a day to do just that as the annual school crossing guard appreciation day is observed here in Volusia County and throughout the state."
Their first priority is making sure that young students safely get across bustling roadways as they walk and bike to and from school each day. However, being a school crossing guard is much more than that.
DAYTONA BEACH -- Among hundreds of colleges and universities in the nation offering bachelor degree programs online, Daytona State College ranks among the top 10 according to rankings released today by U.S. News & World Report.
In the Top Online Bachelor’s Programs rankings, Daytona State once again stood out with criteria such as the quality and experience of its faculty and instructional delivery.
The college entered its fully online bachelor’s degrees, the Bachelor of Applied Science in Supervision and Management and its Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology programs for the rankings consideration.
