NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. -- Embattled Chief Planner Chad Lingenfelter learned his fate just before 5 p.m. Wednesday when he met briefly with Personnel Director Carol Hargy: His job, which paid a base salary of $69,160 annually, was eliminated due to a budget cut.

Lions Club holding barbecue dinner Saturday for $7

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. -- Temperatures barely got above 50 on a mostly-rainy Saturday, making the second of 10 days of Bike Week a washout. On Sunday, however, temperatures are expected to climb to a more seasonable 61 degrees with sunny skies in greater New Smyrna Beach, according to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service in Melbourne.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. -- A masked robber was shot and killed by a security guard just before 10:15 at the Medicine Shoppe, at 653 N. Dixie Freeway, after he stuck a gun in the face of the pharmacist and demanded drugs, New Smyrna Beach police confirmed.
