Dust settles on Volusia County elections: GOP has majority on School Board & County Council

 

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- For perhaps the first time in Volusia County history or at least in the last several decades, the Republican Party has a majority on the County Council and the School Board, even though they are deemed non-partisan elected posts per home-rule charter.

DeBary man dies in house fire

DeBary house fire deathA man perished in a fire that destroyed his DeBary home early Sunday morning, authorities said.

DEBARY -- The body of a man was found in the charred remains of his home early this morning at 54 W. Highbanks Road, a Volusia County Volusia County Sheriff's spokesman said.

"(The fire) was reported at 9:19 Sunday morning, after a passerby spotted flames coming from the windows of the home," Sheriff's spokesman Brandon Haught said." Volusia County and Orange City firefighters began dousing the flames at about 9:25 a.m. and then entered the residence. Firefighters found the deceased man at about 9:34 a.m."

Gingrich is holding out hope is past associations with President Regan back in the 80s will jump start his Conservative label with GOP voters who are of the opinion that Romney represents the best hope of Keeping President Obama from another four years in the White House.
