DAYTONA BEACH -- State Rep. Dwayne Taylor, D-Daytona Beach, received the Florida Professional Firefighters' 2013 "Legislator of the Year" award during the 69th annual conference on June 6, for professional firefighters in June at the Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront Resort.
Taylor's prestigious award comes in at No. 76 in the Headline Surfer® countdown of the top 100 stories of 2013.
“Nobody deserves that award more than him,” said Mike Tyrell, president union 1162, Daytona Beach Fire Department. “There’s no doubt about that. That guy is destined for greatness and we will be by his side the whole way.”
“Nobody deserves that award more than him,” said Mike Tyrell, president union 1162, Daytona Beach Fire Department. “There’s no doubt about that. That guy is destined for greatness and we will be by his side the whole way.”
The 46-year-old Taylor, starting his second four-year term, and a consistent advocate for Florida's firefighters, EMT and law enforcement officers, said he was appreciative of the award, emphasizing he will "continue to fight in Tallahassee for all of our first responders.”
And if that wasn't enough good news for the Democratic lawmaker, his legislative assistant, Shanneé Green, was honored with the "Legislative Assistant of the Year" award at the conference.
