Bio: William (Bill) Benedict born April 25, 1972, in N.S.B. to George and Ruth Benedict. I have
resided in Samsula for 30 years. A 4th generation Volusian, I grew up on the family farm. I attended the
following public schools Samsula Elementary, New Smyrna Beach Jr. High and New Smyrna Beach High
School, graduating in 1990. Furthering my education I attended Daytona Beach Community College part
time while working the family farm and construction until serving in the United States Marine Corps
1994-1998. Continuing my education with the aid of my G.I. Bill, I received an A.A. degree from Daytona
Beach Community College in 1999 and a B.S. from University of Florida in Agricultural Operations and
Management in 2002. I am self-employed, my father and I successfully run a cattle and haying operation
on several land parcels, (approx. 600 acres), located in and around the Samsula area. Agriculture is
kindly instilled in my veins and I have a strong sense of stewardship and nature. I actively serve in the
Samsula community as President of the Samsula SNPJ Lodge 603, and Vice President of the Samsula
Hunt Club. Both organizations host several events yearly to help better our county. As of April 9, 2010, I
am newlywed to Sheryl, my life partner.
I am seeking: Serving on the Volusia County Council, District 3, because I feel the people of southeast
Volusia could really benefit from sustainable, efficient, common sense government (lower taxes,
better services and a lot less spending). Over the last year or so I started mentioning to people in the
area about getting my name on the ballot, which most asked “Why?” and low and behold here I am.
Sustainability is a must on the farm and I know I can bring that to the table for District 3 residents and
all Volusian’s. I am by no means a Politician (another suit), but I do serve in the two before mentioned
non-profit organizations which have operated in a sustainable manner for almost 85 years (SNPJ) and 60
years (Samsula Hunt Club). As an elected official, I will do my best to make your vote count as a Volusia
County citizen and act in a responsible manner to better facilitate all Volusia County voters.
I like: Conservation, more so if it is done by individual land owners or users; the outdoors, driving on
our beaches, fishing and boating our waterways, race and bike weeks, community supported festivals,
knowing that tomorrow can be better than today, the right to own and bear arms and mainly the fact
that I can do this all right here in Southeast Volusia County where I plan on living till my last day.
