Headline Surfer locator / New Smyrna Beach police didn't have much to go on in trying to find a gunman who Jimmy Lee Clark, Jr. , a convicted drug dealer shown here in this Florida Department of Corrections snapshot, claimed shot him in the ankle in July while robbing him.
NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- A convicted cocaine dealer who spent three years in prison on a slew of drug-related convictions, was transported to Bert Fish Medical Center on July 27 with a gunshot wound to an ankle after he claimed he was robbed of his money by another African-American man he didn't know.
The shooter was never caught, New Smyrna Beach cops said.
The shooting comes in at No. 80 in the Headline Surfer® countdown of the top 100 stories of 2013.
Here is a synopsis of what occurred in the 9:16 p.m. Saturday, July 27 incident: The victim, 39-year-old Jimmie Lee Clark, Jr., said he was robbed by a man he didn't know who was armed with a small-caliber handgun.
Police were dispatched to 404 Hickory St. where they were told by Clark that the gunman ran off after robbing him of cash, the amount of which was not disclosed by cops. The victim was treated in the Bert Fish ER and later released.
While the alleged armed robber may not be known, the victim is known to local law enforcement as a small-time cocaine peddler. He actually had a cocaine charge against him dismissed in circuit court two weeks before he was shot.
Whether the circumstances were on the money, on thing is certain: Jimmy Lee Clark, Jr, convicted drug dealer and ex-con, was definitely shot.
