YouTube download / AP video / (14 Sep 2018) As floodwaters rise across southwest North Carolina, some residents are volunteering to perform animal rescues by boat in flooded neighborhoods.

While the sanctity of human life is priority No. 1 in  a hurricane like Florence that is seemingly stalled over the Carolinas and flexing its muscles with heavy rains and strong winds  and the sad reality of seven deaths, including those of a mother and her infant, the next worse thing to tug at our heartstrings are stranded household pets - namely cats and dogs. But scores of volunteers are doing their part to rescue man's best friends by way of boats as shown in the Associated Press video.
