DELTONA -- Saying he's a good person who carries his Bible every day, a Deland man charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery this afternoon, told Volusia County Sheriff's investigators he accidentally shot and killed a Deltona woman in her garage.

Willie Hicks, of DeLand, a 32-year-old convicted drug felon, is jailed on a first-degree murder charge in the throat-slashing death of Danielle Santangelo, 34, of Port Orange, whose body was found late Wednesday in her car in a wooded area near DeLand.

DELAND -- Danielle Santangelo, the murdered Port Orange woman whose body was found Wednesday in a wooded area near DeLand with her throat slashed had gone to see her killer after he apparently answered her personals ad in the Pennysaver, A Volusia County Sheriff's official said tonight.

The accused killer, 32-year-old Willie Hicks of DeLand, a convicted drug felon who has been in and out of prison, is charged with first-degree murder in the 34-year-old woman's slaying.

The investigation so far has revealed that Santangelo had placed an ad in the Pennysaver newspaper advertising herself as a 'girlfriend next door,'" Sheriff's spokesman Brandon Haught said. "Hicks responded to the ad a day or two before she was reported missing; however, it's not known exactly what day they first talked on the phone. It's believed they met in person for the first time on Monday."

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- It looked like a pharmacy in the trunk of a DeLand woman’s car when a Volusia County Sheriff’s sergeant looked inside after pulling her over due to her erratic driving, an agency spokesman said. Gloria Prinz was arrested on several charges Wednesday afternoon to include DUI and possessing prescription drugs for sale when a traffic stop in New Smyrna Beach revealed nearly 1,000 prescription pills obtained from 16 different doctors.

Stetson University art history professor to present gallery talk Nov. 11

DELAND -- Dr. Roberta Favis, professor of art history and curator of the Vera Bluemner Kouba Collection at Stetson University, will present a gallery talk Thursday, Nov. 11, from 2:30-3:30 p.m. in the Homer and Dolly Hand Art Center, 139 E. DELAND -- The Friends of the Library will sell hardcover books and paperbacks in the DeLand Area Public Library auditorium from 9:30 a.m. - 4:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12; and 9:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13.

A pre-sale will be open for viewing at 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, and buyers can purchase books at pre-sale prices from 4:30 - 7:15 p.m.

DELAND -- Stetson University's School of Business Administration has been named one of the nation's "Best 300 Business Schools" in a new guidebook released Tuesday by The Princeton Review.

The education services company compiles its guidebook of top business schools annually based on input from more than 19,000 students in Master of Business Administration programs accredited by AACSB International - the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, as well as statistical data received from the institutions.
