Jim Draper painting exhibit opens today at Arts on Douglas

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Each month one of the 57 artists represented by Arts on Douglas Fine Art and Collectibles, the downtown New Smyrna Beach art gallery, is featured in a solo exhibition. During the month of May, the gallery will feature Jacksonville painter Jim Draper.

Call for artists on NSB's Flagler Avenue

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The Gallery Group of Flagler Avenue is seeking professional artists in any medium to participate in the* "Paint Out" Art Walk* from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., May 23 in New Smyrna Beach. Artists who can demonstrate their artistic technique are especially invited to attend.

Artist are also sought for upcoming Art Walks: June, "Waterworks"; July, "Christmas in July"; August, "Surf's Up"; September, "All That Jazz"; October, "Fantasy Works Halloween Spooktacular"; November, "Christmas Village"; and December, "Special Christmas Celebration."

Art Walk on Flagler Avenue - a free event

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- April has arrived, and with it, Earth Month. A "Recycled Art Walk" will be held on Flagler Avenue in New Smyrna Beach, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.,
Saturday, April 25.

The Citizens Resource Group on Recycling will be on hand to present information about recycling in our community and what you can specifically do to help our environment: "Think Globally, Act Locally."

The Atlantic Center for the Arts Volunteer League will man a table and children will be shown how to make art with recycled materials. ACA will also offer information about their community programming.

Free All-County Jazz Band and Orchestra Festival Saturday at Spruce Creek High School

PORT ORANGE -- The 36th annual All-County Jazz Band and Orchestra Festival will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at Spruce Creek High School, 801 Taylor Road.

The concert, featuring more than 100 musicians from Volusia County public schools, is free of charge to the public.

NSB library to display art collections

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Art is in the air at the New Smyrna Beach Regional Library, which will display three art collections this spring.

Throughout March, the library will feature the photographs of Bud Moyer, a New Smyrna Beach resident who has received more than 350 state and national awards. Moyer owned a photo studio in Traverse City, Mich., for 35 years and photographed families, high school seniors and visiting celebrities including Veronica Lake, Charles Ruggles, Mary Pickford and Orson Bean.

Poetry readings to focus on Latino men

DAYTONA BEACH -- Performance artist Dominique Holloway will host a poetry reading and celebration at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, at the Volusia County Library - City Island.

Dr. Jose Carmona, director of the Embry-Riddle Language Institute, will read several of his poems. Spruce Creek High School students who are part of the international baccalaureate program and their teacher, Ligia Cabrera, will read original poems and interpret poetry from the book “Vatos,” a tribute to Latino men.
