DEBARY, Fla. -- A 40-year-old DeBary man riding a 2011 Kawasaki motorcycle was killed early this morning on Interstate 4 after he struck the rear of a van and then swerved into guardrails causing fatal injuries, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

DEBARY, Fla. -- A 76-year-old man was struck and killed by a van in the roadway on Highbanks Road in DeBary near a Walgreens pharmacy about 90 minutes ago, an official with the Volusia Counry Sheriff's Office said.

Here is a synopsis of the pedestrian fatality that was reported at 9:28 p.m. Tuesday and decribed by Sheriff's PIO Andrew Gant in an email alert to Headline Surfer® and other Central Florida media outlets: The caller reported a white Chevrolet van struck a 76-year-old man in the roadway on Highbanks at the intersection with Charles R. Beall Boulevard, near a Walgreens.

"As usual, the first train leaves Sanford at 5:06 a.m. and the last stop of the day is in DeBary at 10:18 p.m.," Florida Department of Transportstion regional spokesman Steve Olson said.

DELTONA -- Rich Gailey won Tuesday's primary for the County Council District 5 seat on the County Council, but not by enough to avoid a Nov. 4 runoff with second-place finisher Fred Lowry, Jr.

For Phil Giorno, who finished a distant third, a comeback on the dais didn't materialize and hid campaign is now over.
