By going over the top 100 stories of 2009 here at NSBNEWS.net, it is amazing to see just how much went on here in New Smyrna Beach, Edgewater and Oak Hill.

We had local people winning national cooking contests, while here at home did a lot of good things while some did some very bad things. Our NSB High School football team gave us an exciting season, including a great Homecoming victory and some post-season success. We had a major turnover in municipal government and some nasty weather to go along with the sunshine, and of course, some shark bites.

Impaired DeLand motorist pulls box cutter on deputy

DELAND -- A DeLand man is facing a series of criminal charges after pulling a box cutter on a Volusia County Sheriff's deputy Friday night. No one was injured during the episode, which occurred at about 10:35 p.m. in the parking lot of a business on North Woodland Boulevard north of DeLand, Sheriff's spokesman Gary Davidson said.

Sarah Palin to attend the Daytona 500 race

DAYTONA BEACH -- Sarah Palin will attend the Feb. 14 running of the Daytona 500, but as a fan and not as part of any pre-race program, officials at Daytona International Speedway announced Saturday to local media.
